Pierrette Allain entered a not guilty plea for Vincent Pageau and elected trial by judge alone in provincial court. After some discussion with Allain and Crown prosecutor Marc-André Désjardins, who joined the hearing via telephone, Judge Nicole Angers set the trial date for Jan. 21 and 22, 2025.

Pageau has not been in court for any of the four appearances since the charge was laid on Jan. 8.

On Jan. 9, the Nova Scotia-based Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) announced following an investigation that lasted more than a year, a charge under Sec. 271 of the Criminal Code against Pageau.

The SiRT release at the time stated the incident occurred between May 16 and 17, 2022 when Pageau allegedly sexually assaulted a woman known to him while he was off duty.

SiRT is an investigative agency, independent of the police, whose mandate is to investigate matters that involve death, serious injury, sexual assault and domestic violence or other matters of significant public interest that may have arisen from the actions of any police officer.
