Pipogoes Augustine, 45, appeared in in the prisoner’s dock in provincial court on Tuesday on a charge of robbing the Omista credit union on Mountain Road on Aug. 31. Defence lawyer Gilles Lemieux entered a not guilty plea to the charge and the trial was set for three days starting Nov. 6.

Augustine has waived his right to a bail hearing and will stay in jail until his trial.

The accused also pleaded not guilty to a series of unrelated charges, including stealing lottery tickets from Irving, theft of merchandise from Kent Building Supplies and multiple counts of obstructing police and will stand trial for those offences on Aug. 22-23.

Police had earlier reported a man entered a financial institution on Mountain Road in Moncton on Aug. 31, demanded money from the teller and claimed he had a weapon. The man then fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money, police said.

RCMP said a warrant was issued Sept. 8 for Augustine‘s arrest and a description and photo of the suspect were released to the public with the warning that people should not approach him but should call 911 if they see him.

Augustine was eventually arrested and was brought to court on March 13 to face the charge.
